ABOUT US
‘Smart cancer care’ is a website that aims at promoting the empowerment of people affected by cancer. The aim is to encourage people to find in themselves and in the outside world resources to work in partnership with their healthcare system and to become more responsible and involved in their healthcare. Although this is the main objective, this website is intended for everyone who, in one way or another, deals with this disease including health professionals. The project is based on the belief that, nowadays, cancer care challenges us to achieve a social and cultural change. A book collection to assist us to think, conduct independent research, study and develop new skills is linked to this website.
This website is part of the wider project ‘Really New Minds’, a university spin-off based on the research of new educational and organisational needs connected to the the challenges that today's changing world poses. On the basis of these studies, the Really New Minds project aims at developing actions and tools of different types and in several fields, from the use of media and of new technologies to company management, to education and adult learning and the health system.
The initiative to create this website and the publishing activities connected to it is of Parisio Di Giovanni, one of the promoters of the spin-off project. He is a medical doctor and psychologist with extensive experience as a clinician and as a trainer for health professionals, currently professor at the University of Teramo. His current research interests are focused on the rationality and empowerment in medicine, distributed cognition, human error, risk management, interpersonal communication and politeness, philosophy and methodology of scientific research, mental and social changes associated with new media and ICT in education.
